Check out this Amazon list for all the newborn best buys! Babies don’t need much but there’s just some items us mamas can’t live without. Here’s mine!

Having a baby? First time mom with a newborn?
I can guarantee at some point during your pregnancy you will be stressing about what items to buy and what to leave behind. I believe the most popular post of new expecting moms on Facebook sounds a little something like,
“What do I REALLY need for my newborn? Tell me all your must haves!”
If that’s you then girl I’m here to tell ya!
You will see articles and blog posts all over the web featuring the “best” baby items and “must haves” but of course its going to be different for every mom! The only tried and true method is to find out for yourself. You may love wipe warmers and your best friend thought it was a waste of money. Your cousin couldn’t live without a baby carrier but you prefer a Mamaroo.
We all have different styles and ways of parenting but that is okay! In this post you will find what has worked best for me personally. Some of these newborn best buys I did not get to try until my second child but would 100% use again if I have another.

Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Carseat
A good carseat for your newborn is SO important!
I love to find a bargain and purchase used items but buying a used car seat is a huge no no. If you are using one from your sister or a close friend that you trust with your life with I would say that is fine but otherwise buy it new for safety reasons.
Besides a small outfit I think this was the first baby item I bought for Wren when I was pregnant with her. With Wyatt I had a cheaper brand and it was okay but did not seem comfortable or as sturdy. After researching most popular infant seats and reading safety reviews I decided on Chicco for the baby number two. I could not have been more satisfied with this purchase!
Jujube BFF Diaper Bag
It doesn’t matter if you are the type to never carry a purse I can promise you this. Girl, you WILL need a diaper bag!
Even if you are not an over packer you will still need room for several diapers, wipes, and extra outfits at minimum. If you bottle feed then add room for that to the list as well!
You want to be prepared when a major up the back blowout happens at Walmart. Yes, that actually happened to me and no, I was not prepared. I cannot say enough good things about Ju-Ju-Be. These diaper bags are amazing quality, super organized and they offer the most ADORABLE prints. There’s even a mommy pocket! The BFF version has backpack straps and also a removable messenger strap so you can decide which you prefer.
Medela Pump In Style Breast Pump
If you plan on breastfeeding then a pump for sure makes the list for “newborn best buys!”
Not everyone will use a pump but I cannot stress enough the importance of having one available just in case. If baby has trouble latching or your milk supply takes a hit then you want to be prepared. A good breast pump can save the day and your milk supply too!
A double electric will save you the most time especially if you are a working mom or attend classes. Medela is one of the most popular brands for breast pumps.
Before running out and spending your hard earned money you should know that in the US you can get a breast pump for FREE through your insurance company! Check out Mommy Xpress for more information.
Tula Free To Grow Baby Carrier
Babywearing is life!
For real, it is convenient, adorable and has many benefits! I bought my standard size Tula when Wyatt was 8 months old. I can wear it for hours at a time and not feel any discomfort.
This particular Tula is an updated version to fit even newborn babies. The best part is that it grows with your child. How neat?
My favorite time to use the Tula is for long trips at the grocery store, walks at the park and while on vacation. I almost always back carry once my babies are older but this carrier can be used for front or back carry!
If I had to pick a #1 favorite on this newborn best buys list then you better bet Tula wins the prize!
Boba Wrap Baby Carrier
My Boba Wrap is what got me hooked on baby wearing from the start. I bought this while pregnant with Wyatt and remember practicing with a stuffed duck before he was born.
It is so soft, easy to figure out and perfect for newborns and small babies! I also used it for Wren when she was itty bitty but have since sold it to another sweet Mama.
Oh, the sweet memories…
Haakaa Manual Breast Pump
This breastfeeding device may have a crazy name and design but it was such a huge help in the first few months after Wren was born.
The Haakaa suctions to the opposite breast your baby is nursing from and catches milk that would have otherwise been wasted into a breast pad.
How awesome, right? This was an easy way to get a freezer stash of milk built up.
Ingenuity Automatic Bouncer
Although I primarily baby wear it is nice to have a break every now and then.
I used this bouncer mostly when I was taking a shower, eating, or lounging on the couch with the toddler. It is battery operated, plays music and has many different settings on bouncing speed and rhythm.
This bouncer is also pretty lightweight and easily portable from one room to another or even on the go!
HALO Sleep Sack Swaddle
Most newborns love to be swaddled and I always had trouble getting receiving blankets to stay on correctly.
If you also have trouble like me then get you a Halo Sleep Sack Swaddle! I had a few cheaper brands but they did not hold up as nicely as the Halo and it transitions nicely when you are ready to stop swaddling. It can then be used as a wearable blanket which is great!
Carter’s Sleep Gown
My babies pretty much lived in these sleep gowns as a newborn. It makes diaper changes super easy during the night, especially paired with that Halo sleep sack.
Thirsties Cloth Diaper Covers
I cannot love cloth diapers enough so naturally they made the list! I have used several different brands of diapers but my #1 has always been Thirsties. They have never failed me.
Even if you prefer to use disposables I still HIGHLY recommend purchasing a couple of these covers. They can be put over top of disposable diapers and prevent blow outs.
I cannot tell you how many times Thirsties has saved me from cleaning the whole car seat.
Pin Amazon Newborn Best Buys!

Great list! We LOVE our Tula! We still occasionally use it for nap time on the go while shopping with Hugh even at age 4! Also, I wish I would have bought a Haakaa from day one!
Thank you! Yes, I so wish I had bought one with Wyatt. I’m not sure if they even made them at the time but it sure would have been helpful in those early days of storing up all of my oversupply. Haha!
