Our first time making ornaments was a success! Although not edible, they smell so amazing I’d like to eat them. Fill your own tree with the glorious aroma but don’t forget to gift a few to grandma as well! If properly taken care of, these will last for years.
It is perfect to make with preschoolers or even older kids too. With only 2 ingredients you can’t beat it for an easy and fun Christmas activity.
What you need
1 cup of applesauce
1 cup of cinnamon
String
Christmas cookie cutters
A rolling pin
A pencil, skewer, or something sharp to poke a hole in the top.
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 200 degrees and grease a baking sheet.
Combine the applesauce and cinnamon in a medium sized bowl. Stir until the mixture comes together well. You will likely need to kneed with your hands. I found that to be a lot easier anyway.
Roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
Cut out shapes with your cookie cutters. We used an assortment of stars and gingerbread men.
Poke a hole through the top of each ornament.
Bake for 2 hours or until rock hard.
Once cool, loop the string into your ornaments.
Have fun decorating the tree!
