Leave your skin feeling soft and moisturized with this easy DIY natural shaving cream. With only 4 basic ingredients you can whip this up in no time.

A couple of years ago I decided to make the switch to a more natural living lifestyle. One by one I stopped buying many of the products I have used all of my life.
Shaving cream was of the first I cut out. For a while I just used bar soap as an alternative but wanted something thicker while also keeping some of the lather.
I love making my own natural skin care products and had common ingredients on hand so thought why not give it a try?
For the last few weeks I’ve been using this homemade shaving cream and loving it! I cannot believe I didn’t make this earlier.
The castile soap helps wash off dirt, bacteria and other nasties on the skin while the other ingredients leave it soft and moisturized.

Natural Shaving Cream Ingredients
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup cocoa butter (can also use shea if desired)
3 TBS of fractioned coconut oil
3 TBS castile soap (scented or unscented is fine. I like the Lavender.)
20-30 drops essential oil (I use Young Living Essential Oils)
Instructions

Measure out the coconut oil and cocoa butter into a glass bowl or a large glass measuring cup.
Next you’ll need to melt over the stove on medium heat. If you have a double boiler you can use that but I find it easy just to make my own.
To make your own double boiler simply fill a large pot about 1/3 full of water and rest your glass container inside. When the water boils it will melt the solid ingredients. (See video)
Once melted, remove from the heat and add the fractioned coconut oil. Stir to combine and then place in the freezer to chill.
When the mixture is about half solidified you can remove from the freezer and begin whipping with a mixer.
After 1-2 minutes of whipping you can add the castile soap and essential oils.
Whip again until everything is well combined and transfer into an airtight container. I am using 4 oz aluminum tins but you can also use mason jars to store.

Benefits To The Skin
Every ingredient used in this DIY natural shaving cream recipe is beneficial to the skin.
Coconut oil and cocoa butter are commonly used in many skin care recipes because of their high moisturizing properties and ability to effectively soothe the skin.
The castile soap gives this recipe the ability to foam up and also thins it out a bit to allow a nice smooth glide with the razor. It also helps to remove dirt and bacteria from your skin which is always a plus!
Essential oils are always optional in skin care but to me they are what makes recipes so wonderful! Essential oils are customizable so you can make your shaving cream smell like flowers if you want, citrus or even a woodsy scent.
Essential Oil Combinations
- 10 drops Geranium
- 10 drops Bergamot
- 10 drops Grapefruit
Special Notes
This DIY natural shaving cream recipe does not have a preservative. For this reason it is prone to spoil if the storage container is introduced to water. What I like to do is dry my hands off prior to scooping out the shaving cream. Then I wet my hand and later up.
Because of the high concentration of natural oils this could make your bath or floors slippery so be careful!
