We have been in a smoothie making mood here lately! Making, creating, experimenting whatever you want to call it but we have been busy little bees at the Fox home.
Some of you already know this but for those who don’t, I can’t cook.
No, really. I can’t make much of anything to save my life. You will never see my name on a best selling cookbook and there’s no hope for me to be the next Pioneer Woman.
I will tell you one thing. Smoothies don’t count as cooking. It doesn’t take talent to make a good smoothie and trust me, if it did I wouldn’t be making this post right now.
Smoothies are as simple as measuring the ingredients and dumping them in a blender. Mix it up a bit and pat yourself on the back for making something not only edible, but dang fantastic!
When my 3 year old sees the blender coming out he gets so hyped up. What kid doesn’t like to help with the blender though? Smoothies are PERFECT for kids to make!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie Video
Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie Ingredients
1 frozen banana
3 Tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup of milk
1 cup of yogurt (we used vanilla because that’s what we had but plain would be healthier)
1/4 cup of smooth peanut butter
1-2 Tbsp of raw honey (use more or less to taste)
Chocolate Avocado Banana Smoothie
If you haven’t heard of pairing avocado with chocolate then you may think this sounds odd but I promise its great! There’s just something about avocado that creates the most creamy desserts.
Avocados are what I like to call a super food but as much as I want to like them I don’t! To put it bluntly, it tastes like grass. Sorry for those who love it but I just can’t do it plain.
For smoothies though? They are the bomb digitiy! (that sounded total mom of me)
Avocados are an excellent source of healthy fats and packed full of 20 vitamins and minerals! They are also low in sugar and high in fiber.
Because one year olds need extra fat to support brain development, I love giving my daughter avocado. She was obsessed with this smoothie!
Chocolate Avocado Banana Smoothie Ingredients
1 frozen banana
1/2 of a fresh avocado
1/2 a cup of milk
1 cup of yogurt (we used vanilla because that’s what we had but plain would be healthier)
2-3 Tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder (we did 2 for ours but 3 would give you more of a chocolate and less banana taste)
1-2 Tbsp of raw honey (more or less to taste)
Chocolate Covered Strawberry Smoothie
I saved the best for last because this smoothie was our absolute favorite! The kids and I are in love with strawberries and chocolate pairs SO well with them.
I always look forward to Valentine’s Day because it seems like everyone is selling chocolate covered strawberries. This recipe tastes like the smoothie version and I can’t seem to get enough.
We bought a huge bag of frozen strawberries at Kroger specifically for smoothies. I think this year I’ll purchase fresh strawberries in bulk from a local farmer and then freeze them because this is going to be a new staple for us.
Chocolate Covered Strawberry Smoothie Ingredients
1 frozen banana
1 cup of frozen strawberries
1/2 cup of milk
1 cup of yogurt (we used vanilla because that’s what we had but plain would be healthier)
2 Tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder (add more if you prefer more of a chocolate taste but I love the strawberry personally)
1-2 Tbsp of raw honey (use more or less to taste)
Special Notes
These are all more of a thin smoothie so that it is easier for the kids to drink out of a straw. If you like a thicker smoothie use less milk.
Do NOT give honey to babies under one year old!
For gut healing properties use a yogurt with live cultures (probiotics).
These recipes make one large smoothie or 2 smaller.
